Book Call

You want a space to write, but want to be real.

You know what you don't want - you don't want 'fake' or 'fine' or 'lovely'.

You want curiosity and play, with a side of sass and 'oh shit! insight.

Permission To Feel: transformational writing workshops

This space is for you if:

You want a place where you can let your belly hang out

You stare down anyone saying 'I'm fine' with a steely gaze

You are ok with ugly face crying - and sometimes look in the mirror whilst doing it out of curiosity about what your 'ugly cry face' looks like

You are sick of the experts prancing around on social media to get your attention about the importance of your mental health

You've lots to say, but not quite sure how, where or who to say it to.

"You may just end up surprising yourself with the poems and writing that flows with Jacky’s great guidance and questions. Highly recommend! Loved it."

~ Michelle ~

How It Works

Monthly Permission to Feel Workshops

Second Wednesday of each month | 2 hours |in Pippbrook House, Dorking, Surrey

Each workshop explores a different emotion through therapeutic poetry:

Loneliness | Hope| Grief |Joy | Failure | Love | Presence | Surrender

What happens:

Begin with free writing to let go of the 'shoulds' you may have brought with you

Guidance through writing exercises combining psychological theories with creative explorations

Small group sharing (completely optional - you choose your comfort level)  No pressure to be polished or perfect - just real

This isn't a lecture. It's an experience where you get to feel what you need without being fixed.

What if there was a place to heal your heart?

Your defiant part wants a place to shrill out loud:

“Fuck it all, the shadow’s no place to hide"

whilst a tender part whispers,

'Don’t tell me to not worry about it, I don’t know how to not worry about it, and that makes me worry.'

You are more than one story.

You are rage and grief, the fear and the fury, you have a tender heart and a brave voice wobble.

You want a place where all of you gets to show up.

Not the shiny version. The real one that happens to be around that day.

A place where you can work things through, even if you don't get to work them all out.

This is the Permission to Feel Community.

A gathering where therapeutic poetry meets your messy middle, your human tricky things, not as 'disorders' to be fixed but differences to be heard, honoured; hell, even celebrated.

Here's what people who've shown up say

~ Emma ~

I absolutely LOVED the workshop. Your prompts eased me in, and allowed me to connect to myself, my own joy and my own experiences, and explore using those in my writing in a new way.

~ Suzanne ~

I signed up to a 6 week writing workshop not knowing really what to expect. It exceeded my expectations. I loved the weekly topics. I loved the connection with the other attendees. Listening to each other was wonderful, learning together through Jacky’s guidance was powerful. Highly recommend. From a “I don’t write” person who has written poems! Fabulous!

"It was a million times better than any other writing workshop I've been to."

~ Sarah ~

Who I Am

Jacky Power - Trauma Therapist (MSc Addiction Psychology & Counselling, MBACP) and Performance Poet

I lead these workshops because I've sat in rooms where I couldn't find my voice. I've gone from swallowing what I needed to say to sharing my wisdom on stages with audiences in the 100s.

I know what it is to 'hulp'...

I hulp.

A howl and gulp combined

A technique I mastered long ago

To ensure my shame was not on show

As I sat in my heap of hulps.

Oh you won’t see me, no.

For I’ll say ‘never mind’

And put on a smile I honed for show

A lie I learnt so long ago

As I sat in my heap of hulps

I won’t reach out - that’s madness!

But burn alone

In a silent chant of ‘I am wrong’

That gets carried away with its own song

Serenading my heap of hulps

For I am so very wrong

That’s what I figured - so it must be so

When my mistakes were put on show

Cos ‘Oh! They’re so funny, don’t you know!’

Those moments that made me hulp.

I combine clinical training with poetry because your head needs understanding and your heart needs expression.

Both matter.

These workshops aren't about me teaching you how to feel. They're about creating a space where you can finally let yourself feel without someone trying to fix you.
