Permission to Feel Loneliness
A 90-minute therapeutic poetry workshop on 24th February for when everyone says
"just get out more" but loneliness follows you everywhere
Small groups at Pippbrook House, Dorking, Surrey
Loneliness floods your body with stress hormones
The physical impact is equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes per day.
When you finally name and share what you're feeling, your nervous system gets to exhale leading to
* Better sleep.
*Less tension.
*Your body finally believes you're safe.
Most of us don't know there are two types of loneliness.
This workshop helps you identify which one you're experiencing - so you can stop trying random solutions and address what you actually need.
Write the truth (no "good writing" required)
You can stop performing happiness and start telling the truth. That's where transformation begins.
Leave with something tangible You'll walk out with poems that name your experience, clarity on what kind of connection you're craving, and tools you can use immediately (not just catharsis, but direction).
‘I wasn’t sure what to expect from the workshop and arrived feeling quite daunted. I absolutely loved it - such a nurturing, welcoming space Jacky created. Perfect for a beginner. It helped me to see I am creative and there are no rules - this is freeing.
I’m dyslexic, so not confident in writing creatively. This workshop I found very freeing and powerful. I felt able to write and more importably enjoy and feel I can write.
I think your approach is warm, endearing and honest and this is what really makes the group feel safe and satisfied.
Tuesday 24th February
This Is For:
Anyone tired of pretending they're fine when uncomfortable feelings keep showing up uninvited.
This workshop is for you if:
- You feel lonely even when you're surrounded by people
- Someone told you to "just join a club" but you know it's more complicated than that
- You're afraid to admit you're lonely because you don't want to seem weak or defective
- You're craving connection but don't know what kind or how to ask for it
- You're ready to stop fixing and start feeling
- You want to be in a room where loneliness isn't something to hide
You'll:
Get the science (without the lecture) Understand why loneliness hurts physically - and what your body is trying to tell you. Learn the difference between emotional loneliness (missing intimate connection) and social loneliness (missing community), so you know what you actually need.
Write the truth (no "good writing" required) Guided poetry prompts help you name what you've been carrying. We write "poorly" on purpose—this isn't about craft, it's about honesty. No experience needed.
Be witnessed by people who get it Share what you've written in a room where loneliness isn't taboo. Or don't share—you always have the choice. Either way, you'll hear others' truths and realize you're not alone in feeling alone.
Leave with something tangible You'll walk out with poems that name your experience, clarity on what kind of connection you're craving, and tools you can use immediately (not just catharsis, but direction).
Do I need to be a "good" writer?
What if I get emotional?
Will I have to share what I write?
Is this therapy?
What if I'm the only lonely person there?
I'm very private. Will this be safe?
Small Groups. Limited Spaces.
These workshops are capped to create the safety needed for this work.
When spots are gone, they're gone.
