Poem by Jacky Power 'Shame crawled up my back to whisper in my ear. Love leapt up to cry 'You're not welcome here'

Hey you little 'I'm fine'-er, you!

Want to say 'f*ck it' to 'fine'? Ready to move from hulp to HOPE?

We were meant to feel all of it: the howls, the shame, the fear, the joy, the hope. To treat the feelings we have about our human experience as signposts, not symptoms. As wisdom to decode, not problems to medicate.

Definition from Jacky Power of the word Hulp: Hulp (verb) a howl and gulp combined

WHAT YOU'LL FIND HERE:

Permission to feel

Feelings are fantastic at signalling what we need. Here you get to pull off the mask of 'fine 'and get curious about what is really going on. We use feeling reference, not reverence - looking as emotions as macronutrients for the soul.

A language for the 'hulp'

We try to deny our 'hulp' moments - the times we felt alone and condused with no one to reckon things out with. So we become isolated, dysregulated and often medicated on mind numbing behaviours or substances.

It's possible to move from hulp - to hope - I'll show you how.

A way through, not around

When we are frustrated we often move to a position of  blame, self-shame and attempts to "up your game" - something I call The Frustration Triangle. Learn how to stop freewheeling around these roles and gain true traction in your life.

Poem by Jacky Power: I hulp. A howl and gulp combined A technique I mastered long ago To make sure my shame was not on show As I sat in my heap of hulps. Oh you won’t see me, no. For I’ll say ‘never mind’ And put on a smile I honed for show A lie I learnt so long ago As I sat in my heap of hulps I won’t reach out - that’s madness But burn alone In a silent chant of ‘I am wrong’ That gets carried away with its own song Serenading my heap of hulps For I am so very wrong That’s what I figured - so it must be so When my mistakes were put on show Cos ‘Oh! They’re so funny, don’t you know!’ Those moments that made me hulp.

Take what you need:

When you need a witness

For when you're tired of trying, tired of saying "never mind," and tired of traditional therapy.

You've done the awareness work. You've read the books. You can name your patterns — possibly better than most therapists can.

What you don't have is a way through.

That's what we build, together, in an Intensive.

Call To Action

When you need a poem

A free workbook of my poems, prompts and practices - specifically curated to help you get clarity around your hulp moments (you even get the chance to give them your own name) and understand what you need to have more hope.

Call To Action
Image of Jacky Power's poem: To be an overnight success requires some preparation; about 10,000 hours or so is my rough estimation.

When you need a speaker

I bring my poems and the therapeutic understanding behind them to wellness festivals, women's networks, mental health conferences, university wellbeing programmes, and organisations ready to do more than another lunchtime wellness talk. Audiences leave with something they can actually use.

Call To Action

I'm Jacky, human, poet, therapist (in that order).

I'm a therapeutic poet. I help cycle-breakers turn the feelings they've been managing into the wisdom they were always meant to be.

Through speaking, workshops, one-to-one intensives, and poetry collections.

HULP TO HOPE

A gentle guide to reclaiming your voice

Inside: the poem that names the gulp-and-howl combo you've been doing since childhood. A reflection tool that maps where you are right now. And journaling prompts for the things you've been carrying alone.

For when you're ready to start seeing your feelings as data to decode.

THE PODCAST

'Words in the Wilderness', a podcast for anyone tired of flatlining their existence with "fine."

Each episode uses poetry as a foundation for exploring the wobbly, lonely terrain of becoming - of unlearning and unlayering.

This isn't a podcast about 'five steps to fix yourself'. You're not broken. Your feelings are wisdom to decode.

It's about having a cheerleader in your pocket when the path gets lonely and everyone else is questioning your choices.

The opposite of depression is expression

To hear people expressing all kinds of views on love, Trump, relationships, living alone, grief, shopping, it fills my heart with hope. For here was a place where, through mutual respect poets were

‘Carrying what’s heavy on the wings of a melody

That is sweeter to the ear

In the hope that it helps someone to listen,

And not just hear.’
