Let's work together
words 'To the scared souls' in white on a background of a picture of a fern

For The Scared Souls

To fear

To the fear that says, ‘Don’t trust your life’:

Too late.

To the fear that cries, ‘I keep you safe!’

Not true.

To the fear that states, ‘Without me is worse’:

How so?

To the fear that claims my power and strength:

Fool’s gold.

To the fear that shouts, ‘Stay tiny and small’:

I rise.

To the fear that crows, ‘You’ll fail again!’

So what?

****

Roses

Life was coming up roses.

I could smell its enticing scent,

But then a mind worm whispered clear:

This is how it went:

“S’poses now you get ill;

Die and miss it all,

Or that house you’re moving into

Collapses in a pile so small.

Imagine you’re going nowhere,

These exciting times end now.

A big disastrous explosion.

It’s all wiped out - and how!”

And I look that worm in the eye and say:

“I’m not feeding you today!

No food, dear worm

Of desperate fear

or deep anxiety.

You don’t get that

supper here no more.

No way,

no;

not from me!”

And I stamp it’s pretty head

With gratitude and prayer.

“I’ve got faith now buster

And you’re now dead so there!”

Late night news

Don’t read the news late at night, for it will only make you worry.

And all those heinous headlines will create a swirling flurry

Of petrifying ponderings and all manner of scary happenings

Which you can’t possibly solve alone as you lie in bed, awake, at home.

The hopelessness and haplessness will feed

your sleepless restlessness.

As you go through a relentless list which results in endless listlessness.

So when you’re tempted at just a peak at ‘what’s going on in the world this week’

Remember that precious ignorance is not about indifference,

But the necessity of an environment that supports somniferous retirement.

For no situation or person’s improved by the chance of having sleep removed.

So stop scrolling through those click bait feeds and give yourself what you really need.

Sleep tight, dear one, it’ll be alright.

Sweet dreams, God bless, lights out, night night.
